Changes to the secrecy bill hearings

The National Council of Provinces' ad hoc committee has made changes to the secrecy public hearings. Consultations kicked off in the Western Cape on the 31st January 2012 and continued on Thursday the 2nd February 2012 in the Eastern Cape.

With the exception of the time which still remains 09:00 - 16:00, please take note of the changes and amendments in the schedule as follows;

Free State

Group 1: Thabo Mofutsanyane District Municipality: Phuthaditjhaba
Venue: Phuthaditjhaba Town hall
Group 2: Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality
Venue: Bram Fischer Hall

Gauteng

Group 1: Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality: Mamelodi
Venue: Mamelodi West Community hall or Vista College
Group 2: Sedibeng District Municipality: Sharpeville
Venue: Sharpeville Community Hall

KwaZulu-Natal

Date has been changed to Thursday 16/02/2012 and no longer on the 28th February 2012
Group 1: Zululand District Municipality: Vryheid: uMondlo Township
Venue: TBC
Group 2: Ugu District Municipality: Harding
Venue: TBC
A third group has been added. This will be at eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality: Umlazi Township
Venue: TBC

North West

Date has been changed to Tuesday 21/02/2012 and no longer on the 18th February 2012. Municipalities have not been changed, however, venues are still to be confirmed.

Mpumalanga

Group 1: Ehlanzeni District Municipality: Bushbuckridge
Venue: Mapulaneng College
Group 2: Gert Sibande District Municipality
Venue: Lillian Ngouyi Community Center

Limpopo

Hearings in the Limpopo have been moved to Monday 28/02/2012 and will no longer be held on the 16th February 2012.
Group 1: Mopane District Municipality: Mamaila
Venue: TBC
Group 2: Waterberg District Municipality: Mokopane
Venue:TBC
Group 3: Capricorn District Municipality: Mafefe
Venue: TBC

No changes have been noted in the Northern Cape province.

In addition to the hearings, written submissions on the bill are also being invited by the NCOP.
Submissions are to be emailed to Committee Secretary Mr. G. Dixon at gdixon@parliament.gov.za by Friday 17 February at 12pm.
