Mafela Trust exhibition of Zenzo Nkobi images

War veteran Belinda Ndebele smiles as she identifies herself in one of the pictures on display. The Mafela Trust, a Bulawayo-based non-governmental organisation, launched an exhibition of images from SAHA Collection AL3265 :: The Zenzo Nkobi Photograph Collection at the National Gallery in Bulawayo.

According to Mafela Trust Administrator, Zephaniah Nkomo, the aim of the exhibition was to tell the untold story of the activities of Zimbabwe African People's Union (Zapu) and its armed wing, Zipra operations.

SAHA, with the support of the Mafela Trust, has been conducting a research and oral history project on the photographs in the Zenzo Nkobi collection, digitised from negatives donated to SAHA by Dennis Goldburg in 2008.

SAHA is also the custodian of materials collected by the Mafela Trust and archived at SAHA for safe-keeping. This collection will be available to researchers in November 2011.

Please email the SAHA archival team to consult these collections.
