INVITATION: Embodiments of resistance - fashioning the South African body politic

Collage from invitation to SAHA's struggle t-shirt seminar - October 2015

As part of SAHA’s current Struggle T-shirt Project, Frances Andrew will be presenting a seminar and practical research workshop which aims to consider the visual vocabulary of the liberation struggle in South Africa, as expressed in protest t-shirts archived at SAHA, in order to explore the ways this vocabulary can inform contemporary, socially engaged South African design.

This pilot event is aimed at design, fashion and fine art students and activists interested in the rich heritage of visual resistance in South Africa. Through participating in this pilot workshop, these students will be contributing actively to current research through debating and discussing how contemporary design can harness and mobilise current modes of activism.

The seminar will be taking place from 13h00 - 16h00 on Friday 2 October in the Old Fort Human Rights Conference Room at Constitution Hill.

Please RSVP online if you would like to attend this participatory seminar.

This seminar is being funded by the National Heritage Council
