Open Secrets note on the Archive: During the research for Apartheid Guns & Money, the largest set of PAIA requests made by SAHA on behalf of Open Secrets, were to the Department of Defence (DOD). In total, around 900 boxes of documents were requested. Over a five year period, approximately 500 were provided to access. This amounted to millions of pages of documents consulted, and thousands digitized and recorded.
To break down this material that was actually copied, the archive is separated into five batches, each representing a visit to the Department of Defence Archive. Each batch has an independent Open Secrets summary which breaks down the batch by folder and outlines the documents found in those folders.
The document which contains each individual document reference refers to the entire DOD archive, i.e. it contains reference to all the documents found in Batch 1 to Batch 5.
