Scope Content: Daniël Wynand Steyn (born 12 May 1923 in Heilbron, South Africa). DW Steyn passed away in June 2017.

From 1953 to 1966, he was employed in the Municipality of Pretoria then from 1967 to 1974, Director of Telecommunications within the IT department of the armaments Council (ARMSCORs predecessor).
Steyn was elected to Parliament in 1974 as MP for Wonderboom. He entered government six years later, on 6 October 1980, as Deputy Minister of Finance and Industry, Trade and Tourism. In 1982, he was appointed Minister of Education and Training and Minister of Mineral and Energy Affairs (1983-1989), a position he then combines with economic affairs and technology (1986-1989). He retired from public life in 1989.

Following the interview, Steyn facilitated Open Secrets’ access to his collection of papers from his time in the National Party and as a Cabinet Minister.
