Abstract: The Azanian Student Convention (AZASCO) is a national black tertiary students organisation. It was founded in 1990 as the official student wing of the Azanian People's Organisation (AZAPO). As such, it is based on the principles of the Black Consciousness Movement. AZASCO's aims are to create a forum for black people to articulate their aspirations, to mobilise students around liberation ideology, to encourage community involvement and to work towards a socialist, democratic, anti-racist society. The programmes that they are involved in include: matric enrichment programmes, anti-drug and alcohol abuse campaigns, self-help, literacy projects and leadership training.
